Today was so, so lovely. This entire weekend was. There’s a healing quality to certain days, that leave you feeling like you can do anything, and that life is really worth living. I feel that way right now.
This morning I took a different route on my walk. It’s kinda bland. Tomorrow I may do my usual one. It’s nice to do something different though, so, since I do two walks a day, I may do this one in the morning and the other one in the evening. I took a couple of photos during this walk…
Here’s a squirrel I met! He had a nut. Or maybe it was a kernel of popcorn? Either way he was obviously protective of his loot:
After my walk, I sat with Christopher while he had breakfast. We watched a movie (we’re getting through all of the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World movies). I took this photo of him because Kotoko and Tomoyo were waiting for him to finish his cereal so they could drink his leftover milk. The atmosphere was… intense.
After the movie was done our friend came over, and we went to lunch together, and then to Spirit Halloween. I brought Circo with me:
Whenever I’m in the backseat like this and the two of them are just talking their talk in the front, I feel so small. It’s definitely a very Little feeling and for sure part of why I felt so content the entire evening. It just does something for me. Ironic, I hated the back seat when I was actually little.
We had Chipotle for lunch. I hadn’t had it in forever. I find myself enjoying meals like these much more happily now that I am exercising and watching what I eat.
At Spirit Halloween I bought a couple of fishnet stockings which are an… unusual addition to my wardrobe. 😁 But as I said, I’m branching out. I also got a couple of new skirtalls in the mail, very cool ones (as in, the fabric is very breathable) that should work well for my walks in the heat. I’ll be trying those out tomorrow.
After we got back from Spirit Halloween, the three of us watched the first Jurassic World movie. It was so cozy and I don’t remember feeling so utterly content in a while. It was my second time watching this movie. I liked it much better this time around. Tomorrow Christopher and I might watch the next one.
I was super happy with how today’s warm-up came out. I’m finally giving myself license to play around with brushes and other commercial-use assets. Even though assets such as these brushes, or patterns, or commercial-use stock photography are literally made for artists to use, I always felt very reluctant to take advantage. I’ve gotten over that mental block, however, and it is bringing me a lot of joy in these latest few drawings.
I guess that’s all I have to share today, other than, I just feel so happy. I have not felt this happy in a long time. And seeing Christopher also be happy, after such a nice day, is a feeling that utterly completes me. He’s been so stressed. I know not every day can feel this way, but I’ll treasure the memory of each and every day that does.
Hello, everyone! How are you? It’s the middle of the week. I spent today at my mom’s too, including dinner, but I’m finally home now. I have a lot to do tomorrow, and I’m buzzing with excitement for our weekend trip!
I mentioned that I’d gotten my hands on some rare Argentinian snacks from my childhood that I would share with you. This Turrón & Maní by Arcor is the most significant one.
Turrones were the cheapest of snacks when I was growing up, costing just pennies. They are kinda dry and lightweight, a bit like eating cardboard. But they are rather filling, not just for a kid with a meager allowance ($0.25 a day, though eventually it went up to $0.50 a day… still very little you could buy with that money) but also for my mother when she was a young girl working in a furniture store that was commission only (no sales, no pay). These turrones kept my mom from starving at work during those days.
The recipe has not changed at all, not from her days, nor from mine. Even the package is very close to what it was, and fills me with nostalgia.
It’s a great snack to accompany my coffees, and under 100 calories. I got a few, but I asked my mom to get me a bunch more.
Sweeney was the same as last time. I got hisses, but I also got playfulness. He’s very excited and happy when I arrive, but he won’t let me get too chummy.
I tried to spend more time with Shampoo. She looks so different these days… She’s 17 years old and must be shaved to avoid swallowing her fur and dying of a blockage.
She’s fine, affectionate, energetic and healthy, but full of little scabs from overgrooming regardless, and so thin. You feel every bone… it makes me sad… She was once an absolute beauty:
I hope my beautiful Rosie doesn’t suffer the same fate. I do miss so much how Shampoo used to look.
Anyway. My mom made my favorite again, homemade fries and fried eggs. No one can make these things like she can –no one. In particular the eggs. There is a perfection to the consistency of the yolk that I have not seen accomplished in any setting, be it someone’s house or restaurant, no one else can do it. It’s a real treat.
Afterwards, we shared the surprise Easter egg I got from Christopher. He got it at Buenos Aires bakery.
It was so, so beautiful! It also had candy inside.
It was high quality, delicious chocolate.
Anyway, I’m home again, I’ve fed Christopher and made sure he had lunch for tomorrow. Now that I’m nearly done unpacking it’s time to get ready for bed. Tomorrow is gonna be a day of prep and packing –we leave early on Friday! I can’t wait!!
Hello, friends, foes and strangers! Today was a good day too. Worked on art (even streamed!) exercised, did a heckton of chores and studied for the citizenship test for hours, and I also completed another route (the normal ending) for Nicola in Piofiore.
I’ve got an ✨ outfit of the day ✨ for today too:
I came across some cute chalk scribbles during my morning walk… 🌈✨💕
I also snapped photos of these pretty flowers around the neighborhood:
Over the last few days I’ve paid several more hundred worth of my debt! ✊ The lightbox has seen an update:
Tonight I’m visiting my mom. It’s her 67th birthday this week, and we celebrated tonight by going to Oggi’s, a very fancy local Italian restaurant that we had a coupon for. The entire meal was free, sans the tip. I had crab ravioli with lobster sauce. It was exquisite!
We also polished off a wine bottle between the two of us. 😅 The restaurant wasn’t very far, and we walked both ways. It brought a lot of memories. I know my mom will miss these views when she moves in with us…
Today I was able to get a hold of some Argentinian candies I have not eaten in like 10 years (some of them 20 years) so I want to talk about them in more detail in a future post. Right now I’m falling asleep so I’ll end this post here. Goodnight, everyone!
This weekend, Christopher’s mom is visiting us. We’ve already had a lot of fun —the three of us together, but also I’ve had fun with Christopher and by myself too.
Last night we went to Nami Sushi for dinner. I had the Buddha Tofu as usual and a Thai iced tea. It was very good:
The only bad thing is that, while they’ve had an excellent track record of caution during COVID, they rather overfilled their tiny restaurant with a massive party that sat right behind us. They were loud and obnoxious and I truly felt unsafe; I think the most unsafe I’ve felt in any situation since COVID started.
The next day, having made preparations the day prior, I woke up very early, at 6:30am. By 8:00am I was out and going on quite a long ride, almost another 20 miles. But this time I had a book, a picnic of onigiri and chocolate covered raisins, water, a thick picnic blanket, and a stuffed friend. I brought Turrón with me:
Here are some photos of our little picnic. I really was in heaven, and hardly anyone was around, I didn’t feel embarrassed to have Turrón with me. My onigiri was really good, too.
I took this particular photo at the same time as the photo above. But this one is a selfie, of course:
On the way home, I had a treat! The cow (actually, bull/steer?) that I always see on this field was right by the fence this time. He was really friendly! Someone gave him an apple, but he had already eaten it.
After I got home and showered, we all went to a Pho place for lunch. I had some tofu and a mango bubble tea. I liked the restaurant a lot, so I expect we will be back. I brought Circo along this time, for a cute picture:
Once home we relaxed on the couch, watched some TV… Christopher had a coffee. Tomoyo was being very cuddly and I was able to snap a couple of shots while she kneaded my stomach:
The most fun of the evening came after this. Christopher finally opened all the wooden train and train set parts he received. I had some trains of my own. I was really looking forward to this experience and it didn’t disappoint.
Coffee Cake was with me. He really enjoyed having his own little train.
The cats were just all over everything, as cats do. Kotoko was particularly affectionate this evening:
Tomoyo ran around harassing everyone, including Kotoko who just wanted to “fit and sit”.
Here’s Kotoko looking at the trains:
And Tomoyo’s reaction:
After we were done playing for the night, I went to do chores and Tabby and Christopher cooked amazingly delicious manicotti. I burned my mouth because it was so good I couldn’t wait for it to cool down:
Then we played Mille Bornes. Kotoko wouldn’t stop lovingly headbutting Christopher, she was being so adorable that I kept missing my turn with the cards:
I guess that’s all for this post. I tried to be brief, I am very tired… oh I did order my first Atelier game for the Switch today… I am super excited about that. I hope you all are enjoying your weekend so far. Goodnight, everyone.
Greetings! Well, I’ve certainly not been terribly active… Art has been slow, and I’ve barely popped up on chats or comments. I figured it was time for an update.
So here’s what’s kept me occupied and/or the state of things:
🌈 My Sites/Books:
The most important factor in my lack of activity. Wix is not always great, and very expensive, and I really like this WP blog. So I tried to move to WordPress.org, then simply upgrading my WordPress.com (where this blog was started) when the transfer of this blog to WP.org became much more bug ridden than I hoped (and I know… I know… one shouldn’t pay for WP.com, it’s a ripoff. Don’t give me a hard time, I had my reasons, I also had true expert assistance during the process, and the best they could do could not accomplish things as neatly as I wanted.)
Even when I upgraded my WP.com, the things I wanted to do would still have involved probably a full month of difficult manual work transferring my Wix galleries. I just kept running into issues and things didn’t really look like I wanted.
In the end, I downgraded WP.com to just “no ads” (mainly an issue on mobile) and stayed on Wix but that, too, necessitated work.
You see, unless you’re using dynamic pages, databases, etc, Wix has a 100 page limit. I had a lot of pages. Each of my book sections had its own splash page, a page per chapter, a page per character, an About page, a FAQ, a Chapter Index. For both of these, I significantly consolidated pages using anchors, so now, each book has a single page for characters, a single page for all chapters + index, and the about page is the splash page. Additionally, I had to change the font across many pages, as this, too, was giving errors, though only on mobile. All of this took hours and hours of work.
Why was I concerned about the page limit now? I hear you, I do, I haven’t posted a new chapter in a long while. But we knew, from the start, that I would reach a point in my book where there was a large space between chapters that I would need to fill, and try as I might I could not rush it. A lot of writing has been happening in the sidelines, I’m getting very close to when I’ll need to publish again, and doing it on a site that was constantly warning me of how close I am to the 100 page limit was distressing, so anyway, I fixed that.
I’ve also done adjustments to my Trello: the amount of columns has been significantly reduced. Now there is the Welcome column, the Label Guide, Waiting List, one column for ALL commissions in progress, one column for ANY free art, gifts included, one for Trades and Collaborations, and finally, one for personal art.
In addition, I added a “Book List” to this blog (similar to my anime list, only of books I’m reading) and greatly expanded my blog’s FAQ, as well as added anchor navigation to it. A countdown to the next significant event has also been added to the right sidebar (currently, for commission openings.)
I’ve also created a few new banners for my blog. Most of the year, you will see three variations of my older banner, which will show randomly (and, I will probably add more) with Ricky Parky making different faces. However, for fall/autumn there will be a specific banner (currently displayed) and a Halloween one for all of October. There will also be a Christmas banner from Black Friday to New Year’s. I plan to make Easter/Spring and July 4th banners eventually too.
This is mostly for my own amusement since… no one visits my blog as much as I do. Lol.
With some delays still, they are being fervently worked on. I currently have a complex YCH for Kiba, a 4 page, 3 character comic for Snow, and the commission for Island, in different degrees of progress (all between 60%-80% completion.)
🌈 Other Life Stuff:
Hmm, okay, what else… I’m awaiting two bunnies, a Charlie Bears one, and a Steiff one.
The Charlie Bear bunny I’m waiting for, is Cabbage Rose. I LOVE her name, but as usual I’ll pick one of my own. She will be my first jointed Charlie Bear bunny. Her ears are poseable!
I’m not sure if I will keep the Steiff bunny. I wanted a special plushie for sleeping with, that was soft. So it needs to be cute but not so cute that I worry about ruining it.
Being Steiff, it is overpriced, on par with some of my cheaper Charlie Bears, but being soft, non-jointed, and rather average looking. What I really wanted was the 45cm version of him, but it was a too costly for just a few extra inches, so I went with the 35cm one.
It sounds like it will fit the bill of what I am after, but if it is too cheap-looking, back it will go. It’s coming today, so we will see what we see. If it’s exceedingly adorable but too small, then I’ll send him back and consider the bigger one down the road.
(And if you saw me mentioning purchasing a Steiff bear on Discord, I actually canceled that order in favor of Hoppi here.)
I don’t have names for either bunny yet, which is a bit unusual for me. Hoppi is the bunny’s stock name.
I’m also waiting for more bear sweaters, and a new book, “Firstborn” by Tor Seidler. I’m really looking forward it. I’ve been reading lots, recently having finished “Toby Tyler; Or, Ten Weeks With A Circus” by James Otis, a very touching little book, if obviously dated.
Last night was date night, and as a rare treat we went out to eat. It had been a few months since Christopher and I last went out to eat as a date. It was really nice.
We went to Nami Sushi, and I had the Buddah Tofu and a Thai iced tea. We played LOTS of Tetris on the Switch, before and after dinner. It was a lovely evening.
Tomorrow morning we’re off for Sebastian to visit Christopher’s mom. I’m really looking forward to it. Provided my new Steiff bunny is satisfactory, I expect I’ll bring him along. 🐰
I don’t currently have any more news to share. Snail updates will be in their own post. I wish you all the loveliest of weekends!
