Anniversary Trip: Day 2 (And Home Again) ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿš‚

Here’s the second day summary of our wonderful anniversary getaway! We were up pretty early. I was excited to wear the outfit I had planned for today.

It was my cheeky Thomas sweatshirt, a brand new blue plaid skirt, my black boots with new black rainbow socks, and my Thomas backpack. Oh, and my Doctor Who scarf. I wished I could get a full OOTT photo but there was no full-body mirror in the room, so I got a regular selfie.

And a photo of the rest of the outfit, like this:

Then I got Coffee Cake out of his little sleeping bag and had breakfast while I waited for Christopher to be ready.

Soon we were on our way. We stopped to get breakfast first, but due to COVID (understandably… I guess? this really could have been done better while still keeping things safe) the โ€œfree, all inclusive” breakfast buffet was, err, interesting:

Leaving the “buffet”, we went to the train show. Coffee Cake continued to enjoy the views afforded to him:

The train show was a collection of extremely elderly people selling extremely old trains in a packed, very rickety church room. I didnโ€™t get any video or photos here, but they had a cute little display with a train running and the guy controlling it would make chocolate eggs jump up into the air with a loud POP! that really startled me and made me yell โ€œwhat the hellโ€ inside a church, but Iโ€™m a heathen now so thatโ€™s okay. The train popped three eggs. ๐Ÿฃ

After that, we went what was supposed to be the highlight of this trip, HR Trains & Toys, Inc:

This was followed by Zitnik Trains. Both were a letdown, for a few reasons. We’d been to HR Trains’ original location on our second anniversary trip, and while we didn’t buy anything, it was a huge highlight of our trip, and the seed for my interest in wooden track trains was planted then and there. But it seemed too silly, I suppose; I thought Christopher’s main interest were the HO scale and such. I had no idea then how much the liked the wooden ones.

By the time we visited again, HR Trains had been sold and moved to a new, smaller location, that did not have the magic or size of the original. In particular, the wooden track area was sad and minuscule, most its space taken by an old guy in an office chair, making it difficult and embarrassing for me to peruse anything without being in extremely close quarters with him. I saw some items I liked, but was so annoyed and generally let down, that we didn’t buy anything here either.

Other than that though, we enjoyed looking around the store, in particular I had fun looking at the G scale trains. Zitnik trains was smaller and less interesting, so I don’t have much else to say about that. We found no wooden track stuff at all there.

๐Ÿ’‚ Jack’s London Grill ๐Ÿ’‚

Then it was lunch time. I’d picked a place called Jack’s London Grill for our itinerary, and here was another highlight. This was an AMAZING place, the chef was from Surrey in England and the food was genuine and superior in taste, texture and presentation.

I had a pear cider, bangers and mash (well, one banger and mash –I asked for the lunch-sized portion) and a puff pastry stuffed with hot melted brie. For dessert, we ordered bread pudding.

Everything I ate was incredible. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but I guess I’d pick the bread pudding because it was so different. Christopher had Shepherd’s Pie:

I took this next photo after asking him to smile properly. In his defense, I think his mouth was full. ๐Ÿ˜…

The order of things escapes me slightly here –we went to record stores, to bookstores, and to game stores. We also went to a vintage toy store that really stood out! That’s what I’ll be talking about next.

๐ŸŒˆ Bear Haven Land Company Vintage Toys ๐ŸŒˆ

This store was called Bear Haven Land Company Vintage Toys. It was much bigger than it looked on the outside and an absolute delight. They graciously let me take a bunch of photos. I’m sure you’ll recognize many toys you’d like to get your hands on, as I did! It was a real treat.

Here, I found a wonderful little Raikes bear! He was affordable, small and charming, so I brought him home with me. I decided to call him Raisin, because his color was just like that of the raisin-filled bread pudding we had earlier.

His face and paw pads are made of carved wood. Isn’t that cool? I’d seen bears like him before but none were cute enough for me to want to buy.

After that, we went back to the hotel and napped/watched TV. For dinner we went to a PhแปŸ place. The food was good, but the place was dingy, the lights flickered, and the service was so-so. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

After dinner we went back to the hotel for the final time, to toast our anniversary!

We cuddled and watched the last episode of Horimiya afterwards, which was very fitting to end the weekend… ๐Ÿฅฐ

We were tired, but happy. It was a wonderful way to wrap up our anniversary getaway.

๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿก Home Again ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ’•

And that brings us to today! We left quite early in the morning, after grabbing one final McDonald’s breakfast. And, yeah, Friday-Saturday-Sunday I am not doing fitness logs. I ate like a beast, though we also walked a lot. It was a time to enjoy to the fullest, so I have no regrets. โœŒ

When we got home, I found that that my Brown and Cony keycaps had finally arrived, after a million years delay. They’re very cute!

I spent the day taking care of the cats and snails, blogging, unpacking, doing laundry, and resting. We ordered Bento for dinner and I had some coffee and a Vauquita from Argentina, another sweet treat I hadn’t had in years. Vauquitas ( a play on the word vaquita, which means “little cow”) are “dulce de leche” bars covered in powdered sugar. They have a harder shell with a soft and crumbly inside. It’s very sweet and delicious but you can’t eat more than one at a time. It’s too sweet like that.

Tomorrow I have to shop for groceries and finish my chores 100% because Tuesday begins my 100 Daily Warm-Ups project and I have to study for my citizenship test all the harder! So I will end this post here. Also, tomorrow I’ll share all the treasures I found with you. I hope you enjoyed the recap of our trip!

So, EMG Tests Suck ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Turns out having your limbs shocked with electricity multiple times and having your muscles pricked with tiny needles while you are directed to move them is about as fun as it sounds, which is exactly NOT FUN AT ALL.

What I had was an EMG test. For some people, it hurts a lot, for others not at all. I didn’t know where I fell (it was somewhere in betweenโ€ฆ some stuff that doesn’t hurt others was really painful for me, and some supposedly painful stuff I hardly felt). For this reason, I avoided going into detail about the test in my blog posts and journals, because I didn’t want to know anyone’s experiences. All in all it was a little worse than I expected, but it’s over now, and Christopher got me a dinosaur. I’m calling him Rusty:

Doctors are continuing to do multiple tests to figure out why my limbs are going to sleep randomly in the middle of the night (random limbs, and always the full limb.) Exhaustive bloodwork is all good, MRIs are all good, and now the EMG is (on the surface) also okay. But I may have more news in a few days.

Right now I’m mostly just relieved, but it was a scary and painful test. I’m glad it’s over. To be honest, I’m really proud, I was so scared, but I didn’t ask for Christopher to come with, I didn’t bring any toy to comfort myself, which I normally would have done. I know there isn’t much pride in deciding to act like a grown-ass woman at 37, responsible for my own health, but I’m so scared of medical procedures and tests, so I am allowing myself a little self satisfaction.

Anyway, after taking AGES (two months maybe?) my new spacebar arrived so my keyboard looks even cuter!

Summary Of A Happy Day ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŒป

Today was a wonderful day. We had our early Valentine’s Day tea (coming in a different post) I went on a fun long bike ride, and got a long-awaited package in the mail.

As if that weren’t enough, Christopher surprised me by purchasing the espresso machine that I wanted. I only really got into having hot espresso in like, the last week… so him buying it completely threw me for a loop. He showed me the order on his phone while we were having tea and it made me cry, I was so surprised. It’ll be here Monday.

It’s a beautiful red so it will match my kitchen redecor:

There was a time when I did this at a restaurant I worked at. I wasn’t bad at it, so we’ll see if I can learn again. I’m so excited!

โœจ New Rainbow Keycapsโœจ

It took over a month, but my rainbow keycaps from AliExpress are here! Like my keyboard’s original keycaps, these are also clear (the letters, symbols and numbers, I mean) so the RGB effect still shows through beautifully:

I’m over the moon with it, as you can imagine! It fits my overall aesthetic very well.

๐Ÿฅ• A Ride With Slinky ๐Ÿฅ•

I was anxious to burn as many calories as possible after our high tea. I took a different route today, because it gets a little boring otherwise. I rode toward Tree Tops Park.

I decided to bring Slinky in my basket. Though she seems conspicuous in the photos, she was well hidden most of the time other than the lid of her hat. But I could see her, and it made me really happy. I’ve always wanted to take a stuffed animal in my basket.

I came across a little park on the way, with a huge lake in the middle and one path going all around:

There were several ducks and other birds present:

I even got a little video of the guy above:

I found a cow in a field. If it had wanted to come up to me, I would have been able to touch it.

It looked back at me with interest three or four times; I could see the white of its eyes. But it was too preoccupied with eating to engage with me.

I also came across this… thing, painted with a golf and tennis theme. It’s some electrical thing, or something of the sort, but it was so cool, I had to take a picture:

Finally, I was at Tree Tops Park. I didn’t go in, I just went straight on because it was such a nice path.

Maybe a half mile after this sign, a little more perhaps, I turned around because sunset was fast approaching. I had over an hour ride home against strong wind, and sunset was in 15 more minutes. The roads weren’t super well lit, so I panicked a little bit. I was quite far from home to be on my bike.

Night had just fallen properly when I made it back to familiar territory.

When I went through the door my legs were shaking from the effort, but I rode a total of over 12 and a half miles. I’m proud of myself. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸฅŸ Ham & Cheese Empanadas ๐ŸฅŸ

Pretty much as soon as I walked in I began to work on dinner. I made ham and cheese empanadas for the first time.

They turned out alright –I need to use a different cheese next time.

That’s all, I suppose, but there will be a separate post for fun tea photos!

Back To The Grind

Welp, Christopher’s gone back to work, and it’s time for me to put the house back to normal and get ready for all of the “beginning of the year” stuff. So I may be a little quiet for a few weeks outside of the blog.

Today my first custom keycap is here. It’s Grogu! I love him, he’s really perfect!

Random snail photo… snacrobatics?

Not much else to say. I’m busy, drawing a ton, output is excellent currently. It’s getting cold again which makes me happy. Organizing paperwork from last year, preparing to do taxes, and un-decorating. Just doing my best, but I’ve been quite bad at keeping in touch with people, I apologize for that –it’ll likely last into the month. Always does for me I’m afraid, but before the end of January I should be back to normal and less busy.
